Who We Are
Belfast Carers’ Centre has been providing
support and information to Carers across Belfast and the
Greater Belfast area since 1997. We are an independent organisation
dedicated to supporting Carers of all ages, from all walks
of life and from all areas. As a Belfast based charity we
are specifically geared to the needs of the estimated 100,000
Carers living there but we are here to help anyone from
anywhere.
We
are part of The
Princess Royal Trust for Carers - a national network
of over 120 independently managed Carers’ Centres
across the UK. Each Centre delivers a wide range of local
support in meeting the needs of Carers in their own communities,
whilst benefiting from the support of a national umbrella
organisation.
The role of the Carer has never been
higher on the political and social agenda than it is now.
The Carers Strategy for Northern Ireland has been announced
and the Carers and Direct Payment legislation has become
law here. This entitles the Carer to receive the Carers’
Assessment as well as extending the right to apply for inclusion
for those eligible to apply for the Direct Payment model
of service provision. The Centre is actively involved in
ensuring that these legislative developments make a real
and positive change to the lives of Carers. We are also
active in acting as a conduit for your views on these matters
and would actively invite you to contact us to add your
views to the debate or to receive further information on
these important issues. As they affect your lives directly
it is essential that you contribute to the debate.
